DEI Committee
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of the New York State Psychological Association is dedicated to: Building alliances, advancing initiatives and promoting social justice perspectives regarding issues of diversity. The committee focuses on clinical issues relevant to culture including racial/ethnic diversity, the LGBTQ community, gender, HIV/AIDS, disabilities, aging and social issues. This includes the intersectionality of these communities. A primary aim is to decrease the gap in mental health availability and by increasing psychologists’ cultural competence.
Goals of the committee: Build alliances with other state networks diversity networks where psychologists can actively engage in ongoing dialogue about critical diversity and social justice issues; Maintain a focus on legislative advocacy efforts benefiting underserved communities; Provide information on continuing education opportunities and provide programming on cultural competency; Collaborate with other DEI Committee, State Psychological Associations, and APA on advancing the cultural competence of psychologists; Nurture a leadership pipeline of diversity liaisons from various chapters to strengthen the diversity initiative.
Projects: Provide programming to increase cultural competence among psychologists; Provide information on opportunities for populations of diverse psychologists; Provide information to diverse communities on mental health concerns and available services; Remain attuned to relevant legislative initiatives regarding diversity issues.

NYC Family Justice CentersThe Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) develops policies and programs, provides training and prevention education, conducts research and evaluations, performs community outreach, and operates the New York City Family Justice Centers. We collaborate with City agencies and community stakeholders to ensure access to inclusive services for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence (GBV). GBV can include intimate partner and family violence, elder abuse, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking. Read more about the term. The NYC Family Justice Centers are co‐located multidisciplinary service centers providing vital social services, civil legal, and criminal justice assistance for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence and their children—all under one roof. Read more about the NYC Family Justice Centers. The Family Justice Centers (FJC's) are open and providing free services and confidential assistance by phone and in person. For in person services, you can call the Family Justice Center to make an appointment or walk into your nearest FJC if you cannot engage in remote services safely or effectively. For remote services, you can call 311 or the phone numbers listed below to be connected to your nearest FJC. If you are asked and it is safe to do so, please leave us a message and someone will get back to you.
In an emergency, dial 911. During business hours (M-F, 9am-5pm), you can call any New York City Family Justice Center (FJC) to get connected to free and confidential assistance for victims and survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, which can include sexual violence, human trafficking, stalking, and intimate partner violence. If you are asked, leave us a message and someone will get back to you as quickly as possible. Through any NYC FJC, survivors of domestic and gender-based violence and their children can get connected to organizations that provide case management, economic empowerment, counseling, civil legal, and criminal legal assistance. Located in all five boroughs, FJCs are safe, caring environments that provide one-stop services and support. Key City agencies, community, social and civil legal services providers, and District Attorney's Offices are located on-site at FJCs, to make it easier for survivors to get help. All are welcome regardless of language, income, gender identity, or immigration status. Interpretation services are available at every FJC, and locations are wheelchair accessible.
