NYSPA Membership is based on an annual calendar year from January 1 through December 31 and is activated upon approval. Membership is not prorated and does not roll into the following year.

Full Member BASIC

For licensed or practicing psychologists with 10 or more years of experience.  This Membership Tier includes:

• FREE personalized consultations with NYSPA’s Ethics Committee and NYSPA’s Insurance Committee
• One FREE legal consult per year (up to 30 minutes)
• One FREE membership to a NYSPA Division or SIG of your choice (more than a dozen to choose from)
• Access to a special rate of $200/hour with a defense law firm concentrating in healthcare law & practice related issues, including malpractice, professional liability, defense, as well as corporate, transactional, employment and audit defense.
• 20-60% discounts on CE offerings compared to non-members
• 20-30% discount on Annual Convention registration
• 20% discount on all packages listed on NYSPA’s Career Center
• 15-30% discount on advertising
• Opportunities to earn more than 30 CEs per year, which are accredited and apply to both APA credentialing and NYSED licensing requirements.

For licensed or practicing psychologists with 10 or more years of experience.  This Membership Tier includes ALL of the benefits of Full Member Basic, PLUS:

• FREE listing in the consumer-focused “Find a Psychologist” referral service (must have valid NY PSY license)
• UNLIMITED Division/SIG Memberships
• Discounted CE pricing – access ALL NYSPA-created CE content at the lowest offered full member rate

Early Career Psychologists:

For recently licensed psychologists up to 10 years from the point of completing their doctoral degree.  This membership tier includes ALL of the benefits of the Full Member Basic, PLUS:

• Membership in the Special Interest Group for Early Career Professionals
• UNLIMITED Division and SIG Memberships
• FREE listing in the consumer-focused “Find a Psychologist” referral service (must have valid NY PSY license)
• Discounted CE pricing- access ALL NYSPA-created CE content at the lowest offered full  member rate

Emeriti

For members who are retired from professional practice, or who are at the current Federal Full Retirement Age and who engage in professional practice less than 20 hours per week.  This special membership tier includes ALL of the benefits of Full Member Basic, PLUS:

• UNLIMITED Division and SIG Memberships
• Discounted CE pricing – access ALL NYSPA-created CE content at the lowest offered full member rate
• Dues are WAVED in favor of an OPTIONAL, TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION to the NYSPA Foundation. 
• Because this tier consists of an optional donation, autorenewal is not currently available.  In the future, we will provide an “opt-in” choice for those who wish to auto renew their membership each year.

Students

For members who are currently enrolled in a degree-granting educational program in Psychology or closely related field.

• Membership in NYSPAGS, the New York State Psychological Association Graduate Students group
• FREE registration for our annual Internship/Externship Fair held in New York City
• Discounted CE pricing – access ALL NYSPA-created CE content at the lowest offered full member rate, and occasionally some CE programs may allow students members to attend for FREE
• 30% discount on Annual Convention registration, with opportunities to apply for waivers
• Student-focused poster session at the Annual Convention

Non-Psychologist Associate Member

A revised, non-voting, membership tier that includes Masters-level professionals with a degree in Psychology or closely related field, including those with a LCSW or LMHC license.  This class is also open to licensed psychiatric-mental health nurses (PMH-RN, PMH-APRN, PMHNP, PMH-CNS) and out of state members looking primarily for additional CE opportunities.

• 20-30% discounts on CE offerings compared to non-members
• 20-30% discount on Annual Convention registration
• 20% discount on all packages listed on NYSPA’s Career Center
• 15-30% discount on advertising
• Opportunities to earn more than 30 CEs per year, which are accredited and apply to APA credentialing.  Accreditation for LCSW and LMHC credentials is anticipated in 2026.
• Access to Friday Flash, NYSPA’s weekly newsletter, plus educational updates.
• Monthly advocacy updates via the NYSPA Dispatch, and other Information alerts

Professional Affiliate Member

A limited membership category for Friends of NYSPA who do not fit within other membership categories. 

• Benefits largely mirror the Non-Psychologist Associate Membership at this time,  however, additional options may be available on a case-by-case basis.

Terms: Dues are non-refundable and membership is not transferrable. Except as limited above or by licensing requirements, the full rights and benefits of membership shall be available to each class. By signing NYSPA’s membership application, all applicants and members agree they subscribe to- and will support the mission and purpose of the Association as set forth in Article I of its Bylaws, policies, and the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, as adopted by the APA, and affirms that the statements made in the application correctly represent their qualifications for membership, and understands that if they do not, their membership may be voided. Full NYSPA Membership Policies can be found here.
