Funding the Future of Psychology
NYSPA Leadership Institute - Initiated in 2010, the Leadership Institute accepts up to ten fellows each year to participate in a one year program that involves leadership experiences, governance involvement, unique networking opportunities and the completion of a group project. Each year at the NYSPA Annual Convention the graduating class of fellows presents their project to the membership of NYSPA and then a new class of fellows is inducted. The effort has seen positive results as its graduates have assumed roles of leadership within the organization as Division Presidents, Regional Association Presidents, Committee chairs and active members and as representatives to NYSPA's Council. Your contribution to this effort will result in leadership that will fight for the future of psychology in NY and continue to foster excellent programs and efforts within the state and regional organizations. Donate to the Leadership Institute
Public Education Campaign - Educating the public about mental health issues promotes psychology to the general public, family members of those needing care, other professionals that can refer behavioral health care to their patients and clients and to lawmakers who decide on the regulatory future of psychology. These initiatives are supported by a strong committee, integration with the American Psychological Association and the Foundation of NYSPA contributions. Over the years campaigns have included Stress in America, Aging Well Initiative, Mind/Body Health and Awareness, and Psychotherapy Awareness. Campaigns are actively promoted in public health fairs in targeted communities, media campaigns and through a wide use of social media outlets. Your contributions to this effort assist in the development and distribution of educational materials and providing necessary visibility to those that make the rules in our society. You can get involved by contacting email@example.com and indicating that you are interested in being a part of the PEC committee or specific efforts. You can also support the effort with a monetary contribution. Donate to the PEC
Disaster Relief Network - In times of emergency the Disaster Relief Network volunteers are available to respond. Volunteers receive American Red Cross training, work in a network throughout the year to stay current on issues and training and have an organized network so responders are called for specific duties. The DRN committee was active during the 9/11 tragedy, psychologists were on hand for the first-responders, volunteers and those injured. They also responded to the needs of the communities in New York related to the Haiti Tsunami and to the local disaster with Hurricane Irene. This network is vital in these emergent times. If you would like to volunteer for this network send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org indicating your desire to participate. You can also make a monetary contribution to support these efforts. Donate to the DRN
Student Scholarship fund for NYSPA Convention - Each year student members of NYSPA are afforded the opportunity to attend the NYSPA annual convention at a free or reduced registration fee. This is made possible by contributions from members. Students are the future of the profession, therefore fostering their involvement and opportunity to network with current leadership is key to their future participation. You can support this by making a contribution to the student scholarship fund. Donate to the Student Scholarship Fund
