Candidate Statement: I am honored and humbled to be nominated for NYSPA APA Council Representative. I am committed to continuing the NYSPA legacy of having a strong representation at Council. During this time of much changes and influx with a direct impact in our profession we need people in Council with a strong voice willing to collaborate, establish linkages, increase diversity representation and contributions and bring a broader perspective of inclusion to APA's endeavors. I bring my leadership experiences as past member of the Multicultural Advisory Committee for the NY Office of Mental Health and past president of the NY Association of Hispanic Mental Health Professionals. At NYSPA I am founding member of the Division of Culture, Race and Ethnicity, and served as Council Representative for six years. In 2014 I became the first Latina president of NYSPA. Currently, I serve as chair of NYSPA Grassroots Sub-committee. At APA, I served as Chair of the Diversity Subcommittee in the APA Practice Directorate CSL, president of APA Division 31, States, Provinces and Territories Psychological Associations and currently serve as chair of its Membership and Diversity committees. I served on the APA Board of Professional Affairs, and now I am serving as commissioner in the APA Commission on Accreditation. I am a past recipient of NYSPA Service Award, and the APA Heiser Award for significant advocacy contributions. In my secular job, I am Director of the Teachers College training clinic and hold a private practice. I look forward to representing you at APA Council!
