Center for Complicated Grief: Level 2 Workshop: Treat complicated grief
Date: 10/19/18 - 10/20/18
Time: 9:00am - 5:00pm both days
Location: Columbia School of Social Work, 1255 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10027

The faculty at the Center for Complicated Grief offers this two-day workshop covering principles, and practice of a manualized treatment that you can use for clients with complicated grief. You will learn practical information about how and why we use the core procedures and how we put them together. Participants will learn what we mean by a Sherpa-like companionship treatment alliance, how to use a grief monitoring diary and how to work with personalized aspirational goals in order to revitalize and strengthen self-regulation in bereaved clients.  You will learn how to enhance reconnection with significant others, how to listen to the story of the death, how to guide clients in situational revisiting and how to foster continuing bonds to the deceased through memories and imaginal conversation. You will find the workshop to be highly interactive with brief faculty presentations, small group discussions and some role plays, video demonstrations of actual treatment sessions and Q and A.

Please note that CG assessment and differential diagnosis will not be covered in Level 2. This is a focus of Level 1: Help people live with loss.

The Center for Complicated Grief at Columbia School of Social Work is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Center for Complicated Grief maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This workshop is approved for 13.0 CE credits.
