Psychoanalysis Division

The NYSPA Division of Psychoanalysis was formed in 2004 and was in full swing by 2005.  Originally called the NYSPA Division of Psychologists-Psychoanalysis, the Division of Psychoanalysis was formed to develop a supportive, collegial statewide community within NYSPA for the understanding and advancement of psychoanalytic theories, treatment approaches, research, legislative issues, and political and other professional concerns. The Division fosters inter-institute collaboration and educational programs that explore therapeutic, scholarly, educational, research, public service and diversity issues from psychoanalytic perspectives.

Our Division provides a dynamic and supportive context for psychologists and doctoral students who have an interest in psychoanalysis.  It has a growing  membership of 400+, with members from diverse analytic training programs in New York State - making us one of the largest Divisions of NYSPA.  This entitles us to have two voting seats on NYSPA's Council of Representatives, which enables us to advocate for positions that are strongly supportive of psychoanalysis.

We encourage professionals and students to become an active part of our professional organization through participation within our Division. Please do not hesitate to contact any member of our Executive Board if you wish to discuss ways in which you may participate in support of our mission.  For more information on the activities of the Division, or to get involved, please contact President Susan Warshaw.
