Allen Frances, M.D., was chair of the DSM‐IV Task Force and of the department of psychiatry at Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC. He is currently professor emeritus at Duke. Additionally, he is author of two books related to DSM 5: "Saving Normal" and "Essentials of Psychiatric Diagnosis". In his keynote address to NYSPA, Dr Frances will speak on topics related to diagnoses and diagnostic system in psychiatry, focusing on the work on the new DSM 5 manual, to be released May 2013. Dr Frances led the work on the previous DSM 4 manual and has been central in the discussion about new diagnoses.
