Suzanne Baumann, Ed.M.
Education consultant and counselor in Cambridge, MA, reframes contemporary child and adolescent media use as a powerful platform for fostering empathy and social justice. In addition to an overview of current research on technologies and social media trends--and the risk and protective factors therewith--case studies and original teaching will bring to life key strategies for guiding students in the use of technology to better themselves and the world. Professional development and curriculum design tools will be provided.
Sofia B. Pertuz, Ph.D.
Higher education and diversity professional, presents current research and examples of online bias-related incidents framed within a paradigm shift and specific set of tools for understanding and managing these interactions. The focus will be on identifying and addressing microaggressions in a manner that promotes student growth and shared understanding. Audience participation welcome.
