1:00 - 3:00 PM Keynote Address by David W. Ballard, PsyD, MBA
The Psychologically Healthy Workplace: Promoting Employee Well‐being and Organizational Performance

Dr. Ballard leads the American Psychological Association’s Center for Organizational Excellence aimed at using psychology to address workplace issues in order to foster the well-being of individuals, groups, organizations, and communities.  He has extensive experience in management, marketing, and consumer research and has provided research, consultation, and training services in the areas of workplace health and productivity, public health, prevention, and health care finance in government, business, medical and educational settings.


3:00 - 4:00 Panel Discussion

Topics will include the role of psychological science in enhancing the development of employers and employees, practical steps in establishing and implementing a psychological healthy program, the validity of implementing practices in different types of organizations, and current initiatives related to Healthy Workplaces.

Moderator, Christine M. Allen, PhD

Dr. Allen, a licensed psychologist and Board Certified Coach, is President of the Division of Division of Organizational, Consulting, and Work Psychology and Vice-President of Insight Business Works, Inc, an executive coaching and consulting firm.  She has worked with senior executives in several industries including health, finance, education, science, and business on improving executive performance, team effectiveness and workforce selection and assessment.

Dianne M. Polowczyk, PhD, a licensed psychologist, has been actively involved in professional organizations and is past President of the New York State Psychological Association, past President of Nassau County Psychological Association and is a former NYSPA representative to the American Psychological Association’s Council of Representatives. Dr. Polowczyk has expertise in issues impacting well-being of employees in the workplace and chaired the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Committee of NYSPA for several years.

Dr. Harold Takooshian, Professor of Psychology & Urban Studies, and Director, of the Organizational Leadership Program at Fordham University has taught in the United States and abroad.  He has held leadership positions in several professional organizations including the American Psychological Association, the Eastern Psychological Association and the Manhattan Psychological Association. He has expertise in several areas of psychology including industrial psychology, applied social/personality psychology, applied psychometrics and cross-cultural psychology.

Steve Axelrod, PhD is Adjunct Assistant Professor in the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis, the former Steering Committee Chair of APA’s Psychology in the Workplace Network, and a former member of NYSPA’s Psychologically Healthy Workplace Committee.  He is a licensed psychologist who maintains active clinical and organizational consulting and coaching practices.  He has written on the psychology of work, organizational dynamics, and executive development.
