Join us to explore the use of relational psychotherapy in the practice of group psychotherapy.  No matter what your training and orientation, we expect the experience will offer an opportunity to enhance your practice.

Presentation Overview

Robert Grossmark, PhD, is a group psychotherapist and relational psychoanalyst. He teaches at New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis, in the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society's training program, and at the Clinical Psychology PhD program at the City University of New York. He is the co-editor of the recently published Heterosexual Masculinities: Contemporary Perspectives from Psychoanalytic Gender Theory (Analytic Press).

Robert will focus on how group interaction involves the emergence of narratives that have had no prior conscious form, with attention to the role of the group leader as unobtrusive and related. His presentation will link group psychotherapy with a wide range of clinical concepts: dissociation, enactment, trauma, intersubjectivity, sub-symbolic communication and implicit relational knowing. Discussion will be informal. We encourage you to bring clinical examples you would like to consider together.

Please join us after the workshop to network with colleagues.  Robert will sign copies of his most recent book, The One and the Many: Relational Approaches to Group Psychotherapy and light refreshments will be served.
