Stigma and Resilience among Older Adults with HIV: The Importance of Psychosocial Resources

Mark Brennan-Ing, PhD, Director of ACRIA (AIDS Community Research Initiative of America) will present current data on adults with HIV, important because many older adults have often not been exposed to comprehensive sex education, and may not be aware of risks for HIV or other STIs. This symposium will present findings from three studies of older urban adults regarding sexual activity and high levels of risk. Implications of these findings for sexual wellness and prevention programs will be explored through an interactive audience discussion.

Addressing Geriatric Mental Health in the Changing Health Care Landscape

Kimberly Williams, LMSW, is the Director of The Center for Policy, Advocacy, and Education at The Mental Health Association of New York City (MHA-NYC). Her presentation will address how psychologists can both help their clients as well as themselves deal with health care reform changes in NYS and the impact it will have on their clients and practices.
