The Erotic Message of Money

Group Therapy Techniques to Diffuse Money's Hidden Threats to Healthy Relationships

Sponsored by NYSPA's Division of Group Psychology

Didactic and Experiential Workshop presented by Phyllis F. Cohen, PhD, PsyD, CGP, FAGPA
Dr. Cohen is a nationally known individual and group psychoanalyst, professor, training supervisor and corporate counselor, practicing in New York City.

Program Description: This workshop will focus on money as a relational medium in families and in therapeutic relationships. Discussions of money are often highly charged because they elicit feelings around power and control, fears of abandonment, & shame. During this workshop we will explore and together analyze underlying fears and defense mechanisms, which often obscure the hidden anger, insecurity and emotional stress generated by the topic of money. Since money is an unavoidable and critical aspect of our lives, we will work to explore and understand interpersonal exchanges on the subject that parallel those of our patients. We will learn group techniques that can be used to help participants more deeply explore issues around money while both protecting the ego and working towards healthy connectedness.
